Regeneration — the symbolic and cultural significance of axolotls has recently gained widespread notoriety and acceptance. Through all the obstacles and threats that these creatures have endured in order to maintain in changing environments, and the resiliency that has allowed them to continue on despite being near extinct is a true testament to survival. The special regenerative qualities of axolotls teaches us about the patience, care and community needed to adapt and endure in these changing times. Axolotls are medicine. All that we can learn from these little creatures has yet to be fully discovered, but for the moment what we take away is the idea of regeneration, and how we are able to culturally and personally remake ourselves as the larger world continually tries to unmake us. Regeneration is our goal, and the axolotls are our teachers.
